Position Summary
The Compensation and Benefits Specialist will play a crucial role in overseeing and administering the total compensation, benefits, and rewards for employees. The specialist will work with the HR Manager to develop a job architecture and role classification plan, targeted programs to enhance performance, organizational trust, and satisfaction. The Compensation and Benefits Specialist will serve as the go-to expert for all matters related to employee and manager compensation and benefits, including workers comp claims and leaves, and will handle day-to-day administrative responsibilities.
Location: Houston, TX - onsite (hybrid)
Principal Duties
- Work closely with HR Manager to create a thorough, fair, and competitive benefits and compensation program, scales, and structures that are in line with the company's strategic goals and comply with laws and regulations
- Maintain knowledge of economic conditions, labor market, and best practices in compensation and benefits administration
- Conduct salary and labor market studies using our compensation management software
- Conduct organizational psychology surveys to assess employee needs and engagement
- Work with HR Business Partner and Talent Acquisition Specialist to create job descriptions and classifications
- Administer and educate employees through recorded sessions, in-person, and virtual live trainings on health and insurance plans including enrollment (new hire, open enrollment), life event change, and termination process
- Coordinate annual Open Enrollment including any information sessions and health fairs
- Conduct periodic benefit enrollment and invoice audits
- Collaborate with HR Specialists to ensure new hires complete benefit timely enrollments in HRIS, and the accuracy of employee enrollments, billing, and payroll deductions.
- Facilitate accurate delivery of employer contributions and employee payroll deductions to carriers, plan administrators, or other appropriate service providers
- Ensure benefit and HR policy-related onboarding materials are kept up to date
- Prepare and deliver accurate reports in a timely manner
- Prepare and maintain accurate files, records, and information, ensuring that filing is kept current and is easily retrievable
- Conduct employee surveys, census, and other research and demographic efforts required to collect accurate quotes from benefit providers
- Work with the HR Manager and brokers to identify and selects carriers and plans based on quotes, available benefits, and prior experience
- Monitor administrators and insurance carriers reports to ensure the organizations compliance with plan requirements and applicable provisions of COBRA, HIPAA, and ERISA
- Coordinate with HR Generalist in charge of payroll regarding leaves of absence including but not limited to wage replacement benefits coordination (PTO with state disability payments), changes in scheduled hours, health benefits coverage, return to work and the like
- Administer the company's workers compensation program
- Investigate workers compensation claims as reported and determine injured workers eligibility for workers compensation benefits
- Perform other assigned duties

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, business administration or related field. Relevant professional experience may substitute for the degree requirement
- Have a minimum of five (5) years of compensation and benefits experience including experience building compensation structures and administration of the Fair Labor Standards Act, for multi-state or global companies
- Experience with compensation cycle management, pay scales and structures
- Experience with benefits administration, including 401(k) and HAS or FSA plans
- Experience with leaves administration
- Experience investigating and handling workers compensation claims
- Adequate knowledge of current labor rules and regulations
- Knowledge of various types of incentives and benefits
- Extensive knowledge of HRIS and MS Office, HRIS Paychex or SAP SuccessFactors is a plus!
- Advanced Excel skills including formulas, charts, graphs, and pivot tables
- Can think proactively, identify problems and solutions, and exhibit a high-level of self-initiative
- Certification such as World@Work Certified Compensation Professional, is a plus!
- Mercer IPE methodology is a plus!
